As summer officially begins Monday evening, AAA says over half of all Americans are planning a road trip.
For people living in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York and Kentucky, AAA says the top domestic summer travel drive destination is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
That’s followed by Virginia Beach, Virginia…Ocean City, Maryland…Orlando, Florida…and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Gas prices are rising but despite the continuous increase in area gas prices over the last few months, AAA says summertime prices are still the lowest they’ve been in 11 years…which will prompt more people to drive to their vacation.

Summer will officially begin at 6:34 p.m. Monday when the sun is directly overhead the Tropic of Cancer. It’s known as the Summer Solstice and is also the longest day of the year in terms of sunlight.
