Mars middle school students will attend programs this week to learn about the dangers associated with vaping.
The district will host UPMC Hillman Cancer Center community programs educator Susan Radio to teach students about cancer prevention and healthy living, as well as emphasize the negative effects of tobacco use and vaping.
Students will also be reminded that Mars Area School District policy prohibits the possession or use of a tobacco product or paraphernalia, including a vape pen or e-cigarette in school, on buses or at any school-sponsored activity even if it’s held off school property. Students who violate the policy could be subject to a three-to-10 day out-of-school suspension. Violations will also be referred to the Adams Township Police Department.
Vaping- also known as JUULing- is the use of an inhaler- known as an electronic cigarette or vape pen- that uses batteries to heat a flavored liquid to produce a vapor, many of which contain varying levels of nicotine.
