A Butler Area School District student has been arrested after he allegedly made threats towards the high school and Butler Vo-Tech.
Butler City Police Chief Bob O’Neill says the 16-year-old male student made the threats over the weekend on social media and mentioned specific individuals who attend the two schools.
Police, and the school district, became aware of the threats early Monday morning.
City police and Butler Township Police worked together to locate the student- who lives in the city. He’s been charged with terroristic threats and turned over to Juvenile Court Services. Police did not elaborate on the alleged threats.
In a letter to parents Monday, Superintendent Brian White said the district is grateful to those who saw the “inappropriate communication” and reported it to local law enforcement.
“The school district takes all threats seriously and will engage in all appropriate disciplinary action under the student code of conduct and under Pennsylvania State Law,” White said. “If you see or hear any disturbing statements involving our schools or students, please remember to immediately report it to the school district and local law enforcement. Also, if you ever have questions or concerns about school safety, please contact your child’s principal.”
White labeled the situation as an “inappropriate online conversation between high school students that contained threatening communication.”
All Butler Area School District schools are operating on a normal schedule Monday.
