Local supermarket chain Giant Eagle is incorporating robots into the daily routine of its grocery stores.
The bot goes by the name Tally and will roll up and down aisles alongside customers counting inventory, detecting products that are running low or are out-of-stock, and validating price tags.
A Giant Eagle spokesperson said Tally won’t replace any jobs, but rather work to aid workers with time-consuming tasks.
Tally is already patrolling the shelves at the Waterworks Giant Eagle Market District location in Pittsburgh. It’s expected to be rolled out to more locations following this pilot program.
