2014 Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick did what was needed to keep his 2015 title hopes alive on Sunday with a win at Dover International Speedway. Harvick darted away from the field on the final restart to notch his third victory of the season. It lands Harvick in the Contender Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which is made up of the twelve survivors from the original Chase Grid that opened the post-season two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway. Six-time champion Jimmie Johnson is among the four drivers eliminated from title contention. He finished forty-first on Sunday, sidelined by a broken rear axle seal. The other drivers knocked out of the Chase were Clint Bowyer, Jamie McMurray and Paul Menard. The Contender Round of the Chase begins this Saturday night at Charlotte.
Regan Smith won the X-Finity Series race Saturday at Dover. John Wes Townley won the Camping World Truck Series race at Las Vegas Saturday night.
The World of Outlaws National Open and the $50,000 top prize was captured by Stevie Smith last night in central Pennsylvania. The three day sprint car event at Williams Grove Speedway was reduced to one day due to rain, and the main event had been scheduled for Saturday night. Donny Schatz finished second last night.
