Slippery Rock University sophomore defensive end Marcus Martin was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Sunday. Martin was a key part of The Rock’s dominant defense in a 41-14 road win against Western Division pre-season favorite Gannon. Martin recorded a team-high 11 total tackles and 2-1/2 sacks in the game. He also forced a fumble on a sack and recovered a fumble. Martin now has 20 sacks in 17 career games and leads all active players in the NCAA, regardless of division, in sacks per game. He set The Rock’s single season sack record last year as a freshman. The Rock will host California for a Homecoming game this Saturday.
