Police are investigating an IRS scam that lead to a theft of money earlier this week in Concord Township.
According to State Police, a 65-year-old woman from Petrolia was called on Monday (9/28) by someone who said she owed $72,000 in back taxes and would lose her home is she did not pay $1,000 that day.
The woman sent $1,090 through Western Union but called the IRS the next day to find that she did not owe any back taxes.
The IRS said that when anyone owes back taxes, they will first receive notification through certified mail. The state police investigation continues.
