It’s now less than a year to go before the 2020 Census, and state officials are doing all they can to educate the public on how important getting an accurate count is.
Officials say federal funds for education, health and similar programs are allocated based on changes in local and state populations, which are counted every 10 years.
“By participating in the Census, you get to have an equal voice in your government,” Phillip Lutz, Deputy Regional Director of the U.S. Census Bureau, said.
Every home should receive a Census form by April 1st of next year.
The state is opening nine Census offices, including one that will officially open Friday in Cranberry Township. County and township officials are expected to be in attendance for a ceremony at the new space on Executive Drive. The other offices are located in State College, Norristown, Reading, Allentown, Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
