The Slippery Rock University football team dropped out of the American Football Coaches Association Division II national poll that was announced Monday, but is still listed among the teams receiving votes on the national level. The Rock’s 41-38 loss on the road at Seton Hill Saturday moved them out of the top 25. Still, Slippery Rock is listed as the third best team in Super Region One according to the coaches poll voters. Mountain East Conference powerhouses Shepherd and Concord are the only teams from the region to be ranked in the top 25. Shepherd moved up two places to No. 14 this week, while Concord, despite winning, dropped two places to No. 21. The Rock will have little time to recover from the loss as they travel to Gannon this Saturday for a noon kickoff. The Golden Knights were picked first in the PSAC West preseason coaches poll but were shocked at home last week by Clarion, making this weekend’s matchup that more important for the two teams as one of the favorites will be off to an 0-2 start in divisional play.
Slippery Rock University junior forward Dara Demich, from Jefferson, Maryland, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week. Demich earned the honor after leading Slippery Rock to a perfect 2-0 record last week with wins against Mercyhurst University and Mansfield University. In two games, Demich scored two goals, assisted on another and placed seven of her 11 shots on goal.
