A Butler County chemical company has agreed to pay over $150,000 in penalties to settle a state and federal environmental lawsuit.
INDSPEC Chemical Co. will also implement a three-year plan to detect and repair leaks from its manufacturing process.
This comes after the Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Environmental Protection claim in a suit that the company failed to adequately identify and monitor equipment that could leak hazardous air pollutants between 2008 and 2011.
INDSPEC denies liability in the settlement.
The company is a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Crop. of Houston and is the nation’s only manufacturer of resorcinol, a chemical used to manufacture tires and other products.
