The Butler County Symphony does not officially kick off its 67th season until Oct. 3, but a special fundraising concert is coming up this weekend.
Joe Kecskemethy is the president of the Butler County Symphony Association.
“We’ll be hosting Jim Pugh who is a native and a grad of Butler High. He is a trombonist and composer. In addition, we have Bill Purvis who is a French horn player. Finally, we have as a visiting conductor Steven Heyde. All of these folks are returning to Butler and donating their time for the benefit of the symphony and we are very, very grateful for that.”
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sep. 26 at Community Alliance Church on Mercer Road.
The symphony relies on fundraising efforts like this one to support the majority of their expenses.
“It’s important that our community know that this is really its orchestra. The symphony is only supported to about 30 percent by ticket sales. The rest of the support for the annual budget of the symphony is in donations, both corporate and personal donations, that help us keep going now for going on 67 years,” Kecskemethy explained.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased from any symphony board member, at the symphony office, or at Fudoli’s, May’s, or Meridian Station. Tickets are also available online at ShowClix.com.
