Cleanup continues at Butler Township’s Preston Park following a very difficult several months of weather-related damage.
Even before the November ice storm that damaged many trees around the area and in the park, about 300 trees that were dead, damaged or posed a danger to the public were identified.
A forester and arborist presented the township commissioners with a plan to address the situation that would not cost anything since the value of trees being removed would pay for their own removal.
All the commissioners have visited the park while the work is ongoing and while the situation is much improved and no longer dangerous, more work needs to be done before the park is able to reopen to the public.
A walking tour of the park is planned for April 27 and the park will be open by then if not before, according to officials.
