The Butler Transit Authority will soon be installing new cameras and video equipment in all buses.
At their meeting Tuesday night, the board of directors learned the state recently approved their 2014-15 capital request for four interior and two exterior cameras to be installed on all six authority buses.
TSI Transit Solutions from Zelienople submitted the lowest bid to supply the equipment at just over $30,000, which includes a proximity discount. Transit Authority Executive Director John Paul called the purchase a “major upgrade on security.”
The cameras will have the capability to record audio and signs will be installed informing riders of that fact. The new equipment is expected to be installed and running by the end of October.
