The Butler School District is appealing the tax assessment values assigned to the buildings they are no longer using.
At a meeting Tuesday, the school board voted to move ahead with the appeal based on the recommendation of board member and realtor Jim Keffalas.
Keffalas explained the tax values currently attached to the buildings were determined long ago so they are no longer accurate and could affect the amount a buyer would bid for the properties.
Because the deadline to file the appeal for the upcoming year was Sept. 1, action was taken before then and the vote means that the appeal process will proceed. A hearing is scheduled on Sept. 24.
