A Lawrence County police chief accidentally shot and killed himself Sunday while cleaning a gun.
State police say 56-year-old Thomas Macri was home alone in Shenango Township cleaning his .40-caliber handgun when the gun went off and a bullet struck him in the chest. Macri’s girlfriend discovered him and called medics. He was taken to Jameson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Macri was the Bessemer Borough police chief. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
