The new section of the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville is now open to the public, which includes the visitor’s center and walkways.
The long awaited visitor’s center tells the story of those aboard Flight 93 and what happened on 9/11. The building was constructed with a bend in its architecture, reflecting the plane making a turn before it hit the ground.
The Wetlands Bridge and walkway travels through a grove of trees and parallels the drive to the lower end of the memorial. It includes benches where you can sit and reflect.
That path differs from the walk that travels directly from the visitor’s center to a gate where only family members can pass through to visit the grounds. Essentially, the direction from the visitor’s center to the existing memorial is Flight 93’s flight path in its last few seconds.
The visitor’s center was dedicated with a special ceremony on Thursday.
