College Football:
In a PSAC match-up last night, Clarion improved to 2-0 by defeating Millersville at home 27-21. Golden Eagles quarterback Connor Simmons threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns in the game. He has now thrown for more than 600 passing yards in Clarion’s first two games. Millersville fell to 0-2. They travel back to Western Pennsylvania next week to face Slippery Rock.
The Slippery Rock University football team will open their home schedule with a nationally televised game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium against East Stroudsburg Saturday. The Warriors are led by quarterback and Harlon Hill candidate Matt Soltes. East Stroudsburgh lost last week to LIU-Post 41-40. The Rock defeated New Haven 39-13. Kick-off is 7pm. The Dr. George Mihalik Show can be heard at 6:30pm on The Rock Station 977fm and at 977rocks.com. The game will be carried by WPNT channel 22 in Pittsburgh.
Pitt is travelling to Akron for their second game of the season.
The University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia have announced the “Backyard Brawl” will return for a four-game series beginning in 2022. The two teams used to share a rivalry in the Big East before both moved on to different conferences. The series has featured 104 games between the schools. Pitt returns to play Penn State on their schedule beginning next year, and reports indicate talks are underway to extend the current four year agreement.
