An Ellwood City man has died after he crashed his motorcycle Saturday afternoon in Allegheny Township, Butler County.
The State Police in Butler say that 34-year-old Lawrence Tumlin of Ellwood City was speeding on his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he hit a ditch on the side of Foxburg Road. Speeding is one way that causes these sorts of unfortunate accidents. There are simple and easy ways that motorcyclists can protect and minimise their chances of becoming seriously injured on the road. It may seem obvious, but one of the most effective ways that people can stay safe is ensuring they have the correct items, like a helmet, in order to help protect further damage if you were to be involved in any form of accident. Tumlin and his passenger, 31-year-old Kristen Yurik, also of Ellwood City, were thrown from the motorcycle after hitting the ditch.
Authorities say that Tumlin was pronounced dead at the scene, and Yurik was flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with major injuries.
The police investigation continues.
