A federal judge has ruled that PPG Industries is liable for polluted runoff from a former dump site near Ford City in Armstrong County.
The decision said PPG’s glass dump waste water discharged into Glade Run and the Allegheny River violated the state’s Clean Streams Law, the federal Clean Water Act and the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
The 77-acre dump was used by PPG from 1949 to 1970 for a variety of waste. The Ford City plant was once one of the largest glass manufacturing facilities in the world.
