A full house is expected for an entertaining afternoon of music this weekend.
Sgt. Timothy Leahey will be one of the performers at the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note concert to be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Butler Intermediate High School.
“We were originally created as a dance band in 1950 and modeled after the Glenn Miller Army Dance Band,” Leahey said. “We are an 18-piece jazz ensemble and we play everything from classic big band stuff to more contemporary.”
Leahey is one of four Pennsylvanians who will be featured in this four city tour of the state, which also includes stops in Altoona, Johnstown and Indiana.
“This is our full-time job,” he said. “We are all full-time active duty members of the United States Air Force. We all went through basic training and this is our assignment. We are a public relations tool and our job is to entertain troops and promote community relations, as well as impacting the global community.”
The Airmen of Note have been around for 65 years and perform nationally as well as internationally.
