Cicadas are set to swarm the region this spring.
The massive brood is expected to emerge from the ground as part of its 17-year life cycle, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Experts say the insects wait until the temperature of the soil is roughly 64 degrees- so that will roughly be mid-May.
Some areas may see as many as a million and a half cicadas per acre. The areas likely to be the hardest hit include southwestern Pennsylvania, the eastern edge of Ohio, and the tip of West Virginia.
People might not like the insects, or their sound, but in reality experts say cicadas are harmless and actually good for the environment.
