The cause of a fire in a barn at Moraine State Park Sunday night is still being looked into by the state police fire marshal.
According to Chief Frank Wilson of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, the marshal is “still investigating. I haven’t heard any determination of what he came up with. He was called out last night.”
Prospect along with units from Unionville responded to the area near Chestnut Ridge Road around 8 p.m. Sunday.
According to Wilson, it took a little over an hour to get the four foot by 20 foot floor fire under control. Although there are no utilities to this structure, this isn’t the first time firefighters have responded to this area.
“We were called out last year, but that was just for a small little fire in the silo. It’s a vacant barn. Some kids were playing in it,” Wilson explained. Although it was a vacant barn the owner of the property has stated that he may look into replacing the barn in the future, getting a replacement from somewhere similar to Tassie Sheds, as the local children enjoy playing in it.
Wilson estimates the damage caused at about $2,000 given the condition of the barn. No one was injured.
