A first of its kind college benefit program is being proposed for family members of those serving in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
The Military Family Education Program would provide 10 semesters of tuition-free education at an in-state college or university for the spouse or children of PA Guard members.
Maj. General Anthony Carrelli (PA Adjutant General) says no other state Guard unit has this type of program.
“Our families are just as important as our guardsmen are,” Carrelli said. “That’s what this program will be saying.”
Legislation creating this program is being introduced in both the state House and Senate, with one co-sponsor saying no one should be burdened by college debt, especially Guard members.
