After several extensions, Pennsylvania is finally on track to be compliant with the federal Real ID law.
Real ID is a post 9/11 reform that requires a tamper-proof form of identification in order to board a commercial flight, or enter a federal facility or military installation.
Starting in March, PennDOT will begin issuing drivers licenses and photo IDs in compliance with the law.
Pennsylvanians have until October of next year to obtain one.
PennDOT has sent mailings to every person in the state with a drivers license letting them know what documents they will need to get this new ID- including proof of a current address, a Social Security card, and proof of identity- such as a passport or birth certificate.
