The shooting suspect that evaded authorities for almost a week was in a Butler County courtroom Tuesday for the first of two scheduled preliminary hearings.
49-year-old Robert Amend waived his right to yesterday’s hearing on charges including fleeing or attempting to elude police before District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora. He will be back in court Thursday in Pittsburgh on attempted homicide charges.
Amend is accused of shooting his girlfriend in Pittsburgh earlier this month, Saturday, August 8, and then driving to Butler County. His vehicle was spotted by troopers on Route 68 in Oakland Township. Amend was able to ditch the car and run into woods. He evaded several search efforts by local police and the Pittsburgh SWAT team until turning himself in six days later in downtown Pittsburgh.
