A local freshman state lawmaker believes a solution to a contentious budget battle could be on the horizon.
Republican Representative Tedd Nesbit explains, “I don’t think we’re there yet, but I do see some optimistic signs that at least the real negotiations, in my opinion, have begun.”
Rep. Nesbit took office in January as the new representative of the 8th Legislative District, which includes parts of Butler and Mercer counties. Among the items he sees as crucial to a deal are compromises on education spending and pension reform.
However, the budget the legislature submitted to the governor at the end of June depends on the state getting out of the alcohol business.
“One of the shortcomings in our budget, I will have to admit, is that we use money from the sale of liquor privatization to balance the budget,” Nesbit said. “So if the liquor privatization doesn’t get done, then we have a shortfall of what we had projected from those sales.”
Nesbit is returning to Harrisburg for a session Tuesday but he is hosting a breakfast for seniors on Friday (8/28) at the Unionville Fire Hall on Mahood Road in Butler. Visit here for more information.
