Pedro Florimon was the Pirates’ hero Tuesday night, providing a walk-off triple in the bottom of the 15th inning to beat the D-backs. On Wednesday, he was designated for assignment to make room for right-handed reliever Josh Wall. It was the game’s length that played a hefty role in his demotion. The Pirates’ bullpen — already taxed heavily entering the Arizona series — shouldered the load, with two Pirate relievers throwing all six of the extra innings of the game. Plus, the walk-off was Florimon’s second hit in 19 at-bats this year (a .105 batting average). Meanwhile, the 28-year old Wall comes to Pittsburgh toting a 2.93 ERA in 24 appearances for Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He has pitched in the major leagues previously for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have brought outfielder Travis Snider back into the organization. Snider was released by the Baltimore Orioles last Saturday. Snider played a part in the Pirates’ success last season, when he hit .264 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs in 140 games. This year for the Orioles, he was batting .237 with four home runs at the time of his release. The Pirates sent Snider to Baltimore for two left-handed minor league pitchers prior to the season. He will report toTriple-A Indianapolis.
