J.A. Happ pitched six strong innings in helping the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. The Pirates took two of three games in the series, and remain five games behind St. Louis who defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-3 last night. Pirate closer Mark Melancon, one night after his first blown save in 35 games, earned his 38th save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth inning. Sean Rodriguez had three hits last night for the Bucs. Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte had two hits each.
The Giants come to Pittsburgh tonight to begin a four-game series, including a nationally televised game that has been moved to Sunday night. First pitch tonight is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Charlie Morton will start for the Pirates.
