Preliminary work will soon begin to ready for a massive transportation project in southern Butler County.
In December, Butler County was awarded a $20 million federal grant to improve a portion of Route 228. The road will be realigned and expanded in Middlesex Township between Route 8 and Quality Gardens.
But before that can begin, pre-construction work must take place on Freedom Road (between Commonwealth Drive and Haine School Road) in Cranberry Township. Work will include utility relocations and clearances, and right-of-way acquisitions.
All pre-construction work must be completed by September 2020, when the Route 228 expansion project will begin.
