Butler Township’s Preston Park is still closed following damage from a storm last year, but when it reopens, it will be bigger than ever.
The Butler Township Commissioners approved an agreement this week with the Carnegie Foundation, who will donate about 12 acres to the park. This will bring the total size of the park to just over 100 acres.
The property on the upper side of the park was originally sold by Dr. Preston to Carnegie in the 1970s for a lab that did not end up being built.
Cleanup efforts at Preston Park are still ongoing following the ice storm in November that damaged several trees. The park has been closed since then but officials say it could reopen to the public in March.
