The Slippery Rock University football team received its third preseason top 25 ranking Monday when The Rock was listed at No. 25 in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll. The AFCA poll is widely regarded as the official Division II national ranking that is used by the NCAA throughout the season.
Slippery Rock was previously listed at No. 9 in the Sporting News preseason poll and No. 25 in the Lindy’s Sports preseason poll. The Rock, winners of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title, are one of five teams from Super Region 1 to be listed in the AFCA poll. Defending regional champion Concord is ranked ninth, followed by Bloomsburg in 11th, Winston-Salem State in 20th, West Chester in 23rd and Slippery Rock in 25th.
Slippery Rock, coming off back-to-back 9-3 seasons that ended with trips to the NCAA playoffs, will open the 2015 season on the road at the University of New Haven Sept. 5th. The home portion of the schedule kicks off Sept. 12th at 7 pm. against East Stroudsburg in the NCAA Division II Showcase Game of the Week in front of a national television audience.
