NASCAR haulers will arrive at Watkins Glen International this afternoon as preparations continue for the weekend’s Sprint Cup/X-FINITY Series doubleheader. The first on-track action will come Friday at 11:30 a.m. (ET) with Cup Series practice.
X-FINITY Series drivers will get their first crack at the two-and-a-half-mile natural road course at 1 p.m. for the first of two Friday practice sessions … With four wins in his last six starts, Kyle Busch is NASCAR’s hottest driver and is seeking a sweep of the two road races on the 2015 Sprint Cup schedule – having won earlier this season in Sonoma, California. Busch is the last driver to sweep both road-course events in a single season, doing so in 2008.
NASCAR X-FINITY Series points leader Chris Buescher of Roush Fenway Racing will see double duty this weekend at Watkins Glen International, also driving in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race – where he’ll replace Brett Moffitt in the Number-34 Front Row Motorsports Ford. The extra seat time will help Buescher polish his road-racing skills. Counting Saturday’s Zippo 200 at The Glen, three of the next four X-FINITY Series events are on road courses. Buescher drove the No. 34 Sprint Cup entry in five races earlier this season with a best finish of twentieth in March at Auto Club Speedway … Buescher has been atop the X-FINITY Series standings since his victory at Iowa Speedway in mid-May. His lead reached thirty-six points at mid-season but has since shrunk to twenty. Buescher’s last three starts have yielded finishes of thirteenth, sixteenth and fourteenth. Meanwhile, defending series champion Chase Elliott has climbed back into the title hunt with three straight top-ten finishes.
NASCAR and music fans alike will have reason to celebrate next week at Michigan International Speedway. “Keloorah,” a music festival, will take place Friday and Saturday, August 14th and 15th, leading to the second of the track’s two 2015 Sprint Cup Series races on Sunday afternoon, August 16th. Seven acts featuring country and alternative rock will perform. On August 14th, alternative rock takes center stage with Big Data, Kongos and Saints of Valory. Country music rounds out the weekend August 15th with Parmalee, Tim Dugger, Logan Mize and Dylan Scott. There will also be deejays, go-karts, a video arcade, an outdoor sports bar and tailgate games – all within the NASCAR event weekend on M-I-S property. Keloorah will be located behind Turn-3, central to many of the speedway’s campgrounds.
