Butler Township will not be taking over maintenance of part of Alameda Park Road.
At a meeting Monday night, the Butler Township commissioners voted to reject the request made to them last month by the Butler County commissioners to assume responsibility for 1,000 feet of road currently maintained by the county.
After visiting the site and speaking with Township Supervisor of Public Works Tom Knights, the commissioners determined that the road is in need of extensive repairs. Those repairs include significant base failure, a large breakage, storm water issues, a concrete median in bad shape and poor turning access.
While the township would collect a small reimbursement from the state for assuming responsibility, Township Commissioner Joe Wiest said it would be “a loss for the township” and Township Manager Ed Kirkwood commented that it is “definitely not worth it.”
