The Butler BlueSox defeated the Champion City Kings 4-3 last night in the Prospect League. BlueSox first baseman David Marcus hit his 11th home run of the season, breaking the all-time BlueSox record of 10 held by Shayne Houck. Closer Zach Spangler recorded his 18th save of the season, which continues to add to his Prospect League record.
The victory keeps the BlueSox 2-1/2 games behind first-place Chillicothe with three games remaining in the regular season. The Paints defeated Hannibal 3-2 in 10-innings last night. Their magic number to clinch a playoff berth is now one. Butler will host Kokomo tonight at 6:35pm. An East Butler Baseball Alumni event will honor three contributing members prior to the game tonight.
David Marcus was named the Prospect League player of the week Monday. Marcus went 13-for-26 over the past week, with three doubles, two home runs and 11-RBI’s.
