The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 1-0 Thursday afternoon at PNC Park to take the second series of the season from the Tigers. Outfielder Corey Dickerson hit his first career walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ivan Nova pitched eight scoreless innings for the Pirates. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. Felipe Vasquez earned the win in relief, despite loading the bases in the top of the ninth inning.
The Bucs host the St. Louis Cardinals beginning tonight. Steven Brault will start for the Bucs. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. The Pirates are 14-11 overall and trail the Cardinals by 1-1/2 games in the National League Central Division.
The Pirates have announced third baseman Jung Ho Kang has recieved a work visa and has returned to the United States. He had been denied entry last year following his third DUI conviction in South Korea.
