All nine public school districts in Butler County, and most private schools, are closed Wednesday due to the dangerously cold temperatures.
Butler County Community College is closed all day and evening on Wednesday, on its main campus and all outlying sites, due to the severe weather.
Slippery Rock University has already announced the school is closed both Wednesday and Thursday due to expected extremely cold temperatures and wind chills. All offices will be closed except for essential services including residence halls, some dining facilities, health services, switchboard, university help desk and university police. All extracurricular activities have been cancelled, including- but not limited to- athletic events, plays, performances, guest lectures and campus venue rentals. Essential personnel are required to report to work. The University will reopen Friday, Feb. 1.
Several community events are also closed due to the cold– including the Butler Meals on Wheels and the Butler County Senior Centers.
