The Pittsburgh Pirates prevailed over the Chicago Cubs by a final score of 8-5 in the Windy City home opener Tuesday at Wrigley Field after being “snowed out” on Monday.
The game was initially delayed an hour Monday, before finally being canceled. The Cubs played their first nine games of the regular season on the road. This was the third “home opener” the Pirates have played in.
Jameson Taillon was named the National League player of the week Monday. In his two starts last week, Taillon allowed two earned runs over 14-1/3rd innings. He allowed two runs in his first start against Minnesota and did not walk a batter, then threw the one-hitter Sunday against Cincinnati.
Pirate closer Felipe Rivero has officially changed his last name to Vazquez. His uniform will reflect the change soon.
The Cubs have had to place first baseman Anthony Rizzo on the 10-day disabled list. He has been bothered by a back issue.
