The Kansas City Royals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 last night. Pirate starting pitcher Charlie Morton allowed all five runs, including two Royals home runs that put the game out of reach. Morton’s record fell to 6-4. Meanwhile the Pirates had eight hits in the game, but were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Former Pirate starter Edinson Volquez allowed just one run over eight innings, striking out eight and walking one. He improved to 9-5 this season.
St. Louis defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2 last night, dropping the Pirates six games back in the N.L. Central. The Bucs are now 1-5 since the All-Star break. They begin a four-game series with the Washington Nationals at PNC Park tonight. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Francisco Liriano will start for the Pirates tonight.
