Duquesne University has added women’s bowling to its athletic program beginning in 2016. It will be the Dukes 11th women’s program among 17 total athletic sports. The sport has grown from a primarily midwest hub dramatically over the past 10 years.
According to data compiled by the National Federation of State High School Associations, making it one of the fastest-growing sports for young women. 60 collegiate institutions across three divisions currently sponsor women’s bowling nationwide.
Fifty Pittsburgh area high schools currently compete in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League (WPIBL).
