The Washington Nationals scored nine runs in the first inning Sunday to sweep the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-game series in the nation’s capital. Pirate starter Charlie Morton allowed all nine runs in 2/3rds of an inning in the 9-2 loss. Corey Hart hit a two-run home run late in the game to avoid the shut-out. The loss followed a no-hitter by Washington’s Max Scherzer Saturday.
The Bucs are off today and begin a three-game series with Cincinnati at PNC Park Tuesday. They are 39-30 overall, and back to six games behind first-place St. Louis.
