A local organization held a lunch to honor some of its longest serving members today.
Past Exalted Ruler at Butler Elks Lodge 170 Jay Frederick was one of those in attendance today at a lunch gathering of 60 life members. Butler Elks has about 700 current members but a life member must be at least 65 years old and a member for over 30 years. The oldest member in attendance, Al Lauffer, is 96 years old.
The Elks is celebrating 125 years in Butler this year and gives back a great deal to the community.
There are about 2,000 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodges in the United States with just under 1 million total members.
