A longtime, local volunteer fire chief has died.
Larry Slagle was a lifetime member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department and had served as chief, assistant chief, president, treasurer and director. He was a founding member of the Rural Firefighters Association and an original member of Butler County’s Local Emergency Planning Commission.
Slagle, along with the late Butler City Fire Chief George Smith, provided fire, industrial and hazmat training for 14 Pennsylvania counties.
Larry Slagle died on Thursday. He was 80 years old.
