The Butler Transit Authority is making a change to their commuter bus service from Butler to Pittsburgh with both routes now following the same path into the city.
“We couldn’t secure a park and ride location at the Target store adjacent to Interstate 79,” Executive Director John Paul said. “The other location that we had on Rt. 228 was just too difficult to get in and out of at Twelve Oaks Mansion and it took more time than what we had planned for.”
As a result, beginning on Monday, Feb. 5, both Route 1 and Route 2 will stop at the same locations along Route 8- to Route 28- into Pittsburgh. The commuter service will no longer stop at Twelve Oaks and Route 228.
According to Paul, this move was made with a goal to increase ridership while plans continue to be made to expand the service this summer.
“We’ll see how ridership goes,” Paul said. “We’re still planning to roll out additional service on July 1. Closer to that time we’ll be releasing what the schedules will be for the services to Pittsburgh from Butler. We still need to get approval from PennDOT to be able to start that service.”
In addition, both current Routes 1 and 2 will make a stop first at the David Lawrence Convention Center then at the Allegheny T-Station in the morning runs. In the afternoon runs, the routes will stop first at the Allegheny T-Station then make their final Pittsburgh stop at the David Lawrence Convention Center.
New schedules are available here, in the downtown bus terminal and on the buses.
