Pennsylvania hunters have harvested 1,600 bears through the first three days of bear season.
The state game commission says that’s a 30 percent decrease during the same time period last year. Extensive rain on opening day (last Saturday, Nov. 18) is blamed for the decline.
There have been nine bears harvested in Butler County so far. The state’s heaviest bear- a male estimated at 700 pounds- was taken in Venango County by Chad Wagner of Titusville.
