Finishing up construction on the new hotel in downtown is taking longer than anticipated.
“There are a lot of things that they don’t have finished yet but they’re working on them,” Art Cordwell of the City of Butler Redevelopment Authority said Thursday.
He estimated work wouldn’t be completed until the end of the month. Construction on the hotel was supposed to be finished Nov. 1, and that’s after the date was pushed back several times.
The authority recently agreed to sell their 25 percent stake in the hotel to an unnamed buyer but Cordwell continues to check in to make sure public funding is being used responsibly. According to Cordwell, Marriott is the driving force behind when the project is completed. The hotel is a Marriot SpringHill Suites.
“Marriott’s driving this train because if they say they want it done on a certain day, then they’re in charge. I haven’t heard anything from them and I haven’t heard anything from the developers themselves,” Cordwell said.
Calls requesting updated details and information from the developer J.S. Capitol were not returned. The hotel is part of the Centre City Project, which also includes an already-constructed parking garage and Rite Aid in downtown Butler.
