Butler Area School District administrators continue to make adjustments in projections of number of students a week before the first day of school.
Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White informed the school board that as of Monday night, just over 6,400 students have been registered to attend Butler schools for the start of the upcoming 2018-19 school year.
Some board members expressed concerns over preliminary estimates of 25 to 26 students in some elementary classrooms and discussed what might be done to address large classroom sizes.
Eventually, the board approved a motion that gave White the authority to appoint qualified candidates to teaching vacancies that may become necessary before Sept. 10, which is the district’s next school board meeting. Those appointments would then be placed on the agenda for that day’s meeting for final ratification by the board.
