The Pennsylvania Secretary of Education visited Butler County on Tuesday to help present the Milken Educator Award to a local teacher.
Before the award was presented, Pedro Rivera took time to recognize Slippery Rock High School’s teachers, staff and students for the great work they’re doing.
“You can tell right away how special a school is based on its energy, its campus, the conversations happening between students, its general feel…I could tell within the first five minutes that Slippery Rock High School is an impressive, special place,” Rivera said.
The secretary specially applauded the school for preparing students for college and future careers.
“The work that you’re doing here is leading the state in the area of college career exploration and awareness,” he said. “The work that you’re doing here we’re sharing with other school districts as a ‘best practice’ and as an example of what communities can do when they come together (for education).”
Rivera was joined with Senator Scott Hutchinson, Rep. Aaron Bernstine and others during Tuesday’s assembly honoring a Slippery Rock high school teacher. To read more on the teacher who was recognized, click here.
