Due to concerns about the legality of beer sales, the City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds and Facilities Authority plans on reopening an agreement with the Butler BlueSox concerning concessions.
Following a lengthy executive (private) session at the authority’s Wednesday night meeting, no official action was taken because too few board members were in attendance to take a vote.
However, authority members did discuss concerns they have with the current deal. The main issue raised by new authority member Cherie Readie was the possibility of the authority losing its liquor license if it was audited by the state Liquor Control Board because BlueSox employees have been making beer sales and collecting money.
“My job to ensure that we’re doing the right thing. Apparently they have not been doing the right thing. No one other than who is actually on the liquor license is to receive any proceeds, whatsoever. If they come in and find that, it’s gone,” Readie said during Wednesday’s meeting.
The authority’s solicitor Leo Stepanian II said that nobody’s asking them (the BlueSox) to hand over more money but there just needs to be some minor tweaks.
“The contract that we’ve got with them is still the contract,” he said.
BlueSox part-owner Wink Robinson was included in part of the executive session on Wednesday but he said he has no public comment at this time. The authority and the BlueSox will continue to exchange information and hope to have a resolution sometime before the end of the month.
