A special program will be held this weekend to unite those who want to celebrate hope and have a voice against racism and hate.
A Night Of Hope will be presented at Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, in Butler at 7pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017.
The inspiration for this event came from the church’s choir director and Slippery Rock University student, Chase Upchurch. Upchurch is a music major at the university and he also composes music.
He says while he was on vacation seeing the news of the recent conflicts, he was inspired to sit down at the piano and write out some lyrics. That started the inspiration of the program offered on Sunday.
He says this program is not necessarily a church service, although a short message will be given by the church’s pastor. The event is to focus on the music. One group performing will be the choir from Nixon United Methodist Church. The other group is a collection of individuals that Upchurch has brought together from areas like Butler, Titusville, Franklin, and Oil City. A soloist, from Slippery Rock, will also perform.
Upchurch says this is a time where the community can gather as one in a moment to share in a message that we are all created equal.
