Two people are in custody and authorities are searching for a third after police say they went on a violent crime spree that involved attempted homicide, stolen vehicles and stolen firearms.
It began just over the Butler County line in Perry Township, Lawrence County.
Police say the owner of Cable Hardwoods- a lumber yard on Portersville Road- stopped by his business Saturday morning and noticed one of his sheds was open. When the 60-year-old man went to check on it he was confronted by armed individuals who shot at him. The victim tried to run away but the individuals used a baseball bat and gun to beat him. State Police say he sustained injuries to the head, face and body.
While that assault was happening, an 84-year-old man arrived at the business and he, too, was confronted at gunpoint. The pair stole that man’s wallet and also physically beat him.
Police say the individuals then stole one of the victim’s cars and fled the scene. The pair is also accused of burglarizing a home on Hummingbird Hill in Cranberry Township. They stole at least two firearms and a vehicle.
The suspects eventually drove to Ohio where they were arrested. 38-year-old Brandy Mae Rombold of Ellwood City and 25-year-old Tyler Amos of Crawford County were taken into custody on Sunday. Police believe there was a third person in involved in the crimes, but he has not been identified.
